Macedonian; македонски јазик, makedonski jazik, pronounced [makɛdɔnski ˈjazik] is an Eastern South Slavic language. It is part of the Indo-European language family, and is one of the Slavic languages, which are part of a larger Balto-Slavic branch. Spoken as a first language by around two million people, it serves as the official language of North Macedonia. Most speakers can be found in the country and its diaspora, with a smaller number of speakers throughout the transnational region of Macedonia. Macedonian is also a recognized minority language in parts of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, and Serbia and it is spoken by emigrant communities predominantly in Australia, Canada and the United States.

The aim of the course is for the student to master the knowledge at the A1/language level according to the common European reference framework for knowledge of foreign languages, through the following skills:
Listening The student should be able to identify and understand individual words and larger lexical items, to correctly interpret the intonation when listening to short texts or dialogues, to connect the information with their graphic representation, to extract specific information from larger texts.
Reading The student should be able to understand general notes, personal letters, descriptions and hints, to extract the necessary basic information from the texts.
Writing The candidate should be able to write short, simple announcements and notes, describe people, places, events and objects and write letters.
Speaking The student should be able to participate in conversations related to everyday situations and lead conversations after given situations. He should understand questions and ask questions in dialogues
Course content: The Macedonian language in the family of Slavic and South Slavic languages. Codification of the Macedonian standard language. Pronunciation, alphabet and writing rules. Spelling: Spelling changes. Equation by sonority. Capitalization and capitalization. Merged and split writing. Abbreviations. Spelling and punctuation marks. Adoption and correct pronunciation of the accent of individual words, accent wholes and eclectic expressions. Articulation and acoustic phonetics: an overview of voices in the modern Macedonian language. Lexicology. Presenting the basic grammar rules, contents and mastering them through written and spoken exercises. Presenting and determining speech acts from everyday life. Acquiring skills for spoken and written expression in given situations. Read texts with simple content. Progressive penetration into more complex structures and vocabulary determining the basic grammatical structures and upgrading them. Presentation of more complex syntactic structures, vocabulary and phraseology. Reading texts with more complex content from different professional areas. Written expression for different purposes in informal and formal style.

Course content: Notion of morphology and morpheme. Word groups: changeable (nouns, verbs, adjectives, numbers, pronouns) and immutable (adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, particles, exclamations, modal words). Grammatical categories in changeable word groups. Word formation of the members of the changeable word groups. Morphosyntax: word groups on a sentence level. Introduction to syntax as a language level. Syntactic units: noun group, sentence, compound sentence. Syntactic means and syntactic connections. Term group term: definitions, structure, functions. Grammatical categories of the noun group: gender, number, dependence, definiteness. Syntactic scheme of the noun group. Stylistics, functional styles. Progressive penetration into more complex structures and vocabulary. Reading texts with more complex content from different professional areas. Written expression for different purposes in informal and formal style.
